[The journal clicks to life - shaky at first, then clearing up to show Ellie's excited face.]
Oh man- is this what used to happen during Christmas? The whole surprise-gifts-under-the-tree or whatever... it's kind of late, and yeah, there's no tree, but--!!
[She turns the journal around to show her sparsely-decorated apartment at first, and then, when she fixes it, a big, box-style arcade machine, the game title of "The Turning" splashed across the front in faded letters. It looks kind of beaten up, but not in too terrible a condition.]
Does anybody know about this game? It's supposed to be so cool, I heard all about it from a friend back home. I can't get it to work, though... they're supposed to be plugged in, right? It's in the middle of the room, so the cord won't reach anything.
Can somebody strong come over and help me move it? I wanna give it a try! ...And if it doesn't work, would anybody know how to fix this kind of thing?

[She heads over to the nearest wall she'd found with a plug. She'd managed to shove some of the lighter furniture around to make space for it, but the big metal clunker had been too much weight for her.]
There's a plug here, so if we can get it close enough to the wall to plug it in, that'd be great. Then at least we'll know if it works.
[Action]
Yeah, that looks like your standard plug alright. [And he gets up, snapping his fingers together with a confident smirk.] Alright! Now, get ready to watch the magic happen!
[He steps forward, hugs the front of the arcade... and then there's bamf. Kurt and the arcade, in a cloud of smoke, are now right in the blank space by the plug.]
Voila! [He's ready to take a bow, now.]
[Action]
Holy shit!! You- you just- holy shit!
[Action]
Tut tut tut. You must watch your language, young lady. Still, was that the coolest thing you ever saw or what?
[Action]
It was pretty freaking cool, yeah! At least in the top five.
[She did meet a speedster upon arrival and people can actually fly here.]
[Action]
The top five, high? [He says with an amused eyebrow raise.] I'm glad I made it right up there already! Of course, it'll be hard for me to top myself now.
[Action]
[You never know in this place. She's never seen anything like that before, though.]
[Action]
Nope! This power's all natural! It's the kind of thing you're born with.
[Action]
Are you a mutant?
[Action]
You're right on the money. [He runs a hand through his hair nervously.] That's me.
[Action]
That's cool.
[So that makes two! Now she's wondering how many are around this place.
First, though, she has a game system to plug in.]
That kind of power must be really useful.
[Action]
[Action]
[Like being immune to a thing no one else is and watching everyone die around you. Woo, that's super fun.
Watever, she's here to have fun. As soon as the game's plugged in, it comes to life with a digital blare of sounds, logos, and shiny graphics, so she's immediately distracted.]
It works!! Oh my god!
[Action]
Whoa! Awesome. It lives!
[Action]
[She moves up to start poking at buttons, trying to get a game going.]
Just need to figure out how to play, and we're good to go!
[Action]
Trial and error sounds like the way to go! That's how I learned the Frogger and Miss Pac-Man!
[Action]
[Ahhh, the game already looks so cool... just as cool as Riley described. She picks her character - Angel Knives, of course - and loads up the first fight. Maybe it has the same attacks as she'd been taught back then...?]
[Action]
[He keeps watching with some interest.]
[Action]
...Well, it's not like I missed out on purpose. But I'll keep an eye out for them.
[Action]
[Action]
[Some of the combos don't work, so it's mostly trial and error. The whole game is kind of hit and miss.]
I don't remember the big combo... it's like... left-right-left-right... up? Or down? Shit, it happened way too fast to remember it all!
[Action]
Oh man! Try... try the Konami code! Up up down down left right left right B A!
[Action]
[Whatever that means. She tries the rest and tosses in two random button combinations at the end, anyway, and it... actually seems to do something useful. Huh.]
...Hey, that worked! What did I press, did you see!?
[She'd slammed the buttons so hard she can't even remember what she picked.]
[Action]
[Action]
Oh, fuck yeah! Victory goes to the master!
